Power of Place: America 250 Outdoor Art Installation
The Lombard Historical Society, in partnership with the Lombard Park District and the Village of Lombard, invites schools, community groups, and artists to participate in Power of Place, a community wide outdoor art installation celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
Who Can Participate:
Elementary, middle, and high schools
Community organizations and community art groups
Individual adult artists
About the Artwork
Participants are invited to explore the theme Power of Place and reflect on what makes Lombard, DuPage County, or the United States meaningful. Artwork may be inspired by local history, important people, shared spaces, or personal connections to place.
Participation Options
School Cutouts
Participating schools will receive a pre-made America cutout to paint. School cutouts do not require design review prior to painting.Community Partner Cutouts
Community groups may also participate using the cutout format. Design review is required before painting begins.Original Artwork
High schools, community groups, and adult artists may submit original artwork designed for outdoor display. Original artwork is juried, and up to 10 selected works will receive a $250 stipend.
Important Dates
Intent to Participate Due: March 2
Design Submissions Due (original artwork and community partner cutouts): April 3
Design Approvals and Stipend Notifications: April 17
High School Cutout Drop Off: Second and third weeks of March
Exhibition Details
Exhibition Dates: June through September
Locations: Lilacia Park and Lombard Historical Society (23 W. Maple Street)
Cost: Free and open to the public

Elementary schools are invited to take part in Power of Place by creating a painted America cutout provided as part of the project.
