Share Your Story for America 250
As the nation prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Lombard Historical Society is looking ahead by preserving the stories of our community today.
This project is also a tribute to our own beginnings. In 1970, local residents came together to collect photographs, documents, objects, and memories in preparation for the nation’s Bicentennial. Those efforts helped establish the Lombard Historical Society and created a collection that continues to tell Lombard’s story more than 50 years later.
Now, for America 250, we are inviting the community to help us build the collection for future generations.
Share Your Memories and Photographs
We welcome photographs and personal stories that reflect life in Lombard, both past and present. Your contribution might document:
Family celebrations, traditions, and everyday life
Neighborhoods, homes, schools, churches, and local businesses
Community events, festivals, parades, and public gatherings
Parks, streets, buildings, and places that have changed over time
Local clubs, organizations, sports teams, and volunteer groups
Work life, transportation, fashion, hobbies, and recreation
Important moments or personal experiences that shaped your connection to Lombard
Photographs do not need to be historic to be valuable. Images taken today will help future generations understand what life in Lombard was like during the America 250 commemoration.
When submitting a photograph, please include as much information as possible, such as the names of the people pictured, the location, the approximate date, and the story behind the image.
Help Us Collect for the Future
The photographs, memories, and stories collected through this project will help preserve a more complete picture of our community. By sharing your experiences, you are helping ensure that the voices and everyday lives of Lombard residents are represented in the historical record.
