Lombard: A Three Train Town- Exhibit

  • 23 W Maple St Lombard, IL 60148 (map)

See our latest family-friendly exhibit at the Sheldon Peck Homestead - all about trains!

Don’t miss the model train exhibit - for the Opening only.

Three trains rumbled through Lombard in their heyday of commuter train traffic:
Galena and Chicago Union/ Chicago Northwestern/ Union Pacific,
Chicago Great Western Railway and the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin.

By 1902, Lombard was a three train line town, all located within a few blocks of each other, around the downtown area. People and goods were able to move with ease between Lombard and Chicago, which was previously unheard of.

The oldest of the three lines is the Chicago & Northwestern and today is operated by the Union Pacific Railway. This is the track the Pioneer took to Lombard and is visible out the front of the Peck Homestead.

Through this exhibit, you will learn more about the trains which ran through the town and their impact on the identity of Lombard.

Also, for those who enjoy learning about the history of trains in Lombard, be sure to mark your calendar for Brian & Joyce Ostberg’s presentation, “The History of the Lombard Train Stations,” on Wednesday, August 16 at 7 pm in person at the Carriage House at 23 West Maple Street in Lombard, IL. This lecture is free, however, we recommend that you register in advance: lombardhistory.org.

The Sheldon Peck Homestead is located at 355 E Parkside Ave and the exhibit is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Noon to 4pm.

Later Event: August 1
