The Secrets of Hidden Lake is the story of the Hidden Lake Forest Preserve from the arrival of the Potawatomi people, their removal in the 1830’s, the homesteaders who followed, to the Wheat King, Arthur W. Cutten, who built a country estate and one of the largest fortunes in America.
We hear of the underworld gambling czar that followed Cutten and went to prison like his associate Al Capone.
The Documentary concludes with the first preserves mysterious discovery of two giant stone goddesses following the purchase of the land in the late 1970s. The statues depicting commerce and labor reside today, in front of the Chicago Board of Trade building at LaSalle and Jackson streets in Chicago.
