The Lives of Tudor Wives Part II: Frilled to Meet You
Tudor life, appetites, and dysfunction

Learn about little discussed aspects of Tudor Life in this presentation. The topics range from gluttony to sexual dysfunction in the Tudor Era. You will also hear anatomically correct terminology used for the human body and bodily functions…presented in a lighthearted manner.

These herstory unsanitized presentations explore the engrossing “taboo” topics omitted from history. They’re not about bustles, butlers, spinning wheels, quilting bees, hornbooks, or hoop rolling. Audiences will be alternately chuckling and aghast!

When we talk about the past, women's stories often get lost. History isn’t only about wealthy, white men. We all love stories that pull us in and don’t gloss over the “unsanitary” stuff. We want stories that make us wince, laugh, and grimace because history is more than just a chain of important individuals and events. From our Zoom and live lectures, we know for a fact that sharing the “out of bounds” stuff empowers women and girls to tell their own stories. ~ Velya Jancz-Urban & Ehris Urban

About the Presenters

Mother & daughter team, Velya Jancz-Urban & Ehris Urban, are published authors, enthusiastic lifelong learners, have presented programs to hundreds of thousands of people - and quickly pivoted when lockdown shattered their public speaking career. On August 20, 2021, they packed up everything (including their cat, Gloria, and their Great Dane, Viola) and moved from Connecticut to the Yucatán in Mexico.

Zany and gregarious, Velya is a teacher, author, former Brazilian dairy farm owne, proponent of medical freedom, and herstory unsanitized expert. Moving into a 1770 Connecticut farmhouse ignited Velya’s obsession with the Colonial Era, and led to her entertainingly-informative presentations.

A graduate of Western Connecticut State University with a B.A. in Anthropology/Sociology, Ehris is an herbalist, holistic nutritionist, reflexologist and reiki master, and certified ESL teacher.
