The Lombard Historical Society offers several programs to get youths involved and excited in history.

Pioneer Birthday Parties

Celebrate your next birthday at the Sheldon Peck Homestead. We provide two-hour Pioneer party packages with your choice of pioneer activities.

Parties are offered two Saturdays a month,
at either 1 - 3 pm or 4 - 6 pm.

Victorian Tea Birthday Parties

Do you have a child who loves tea parties? We'll begin offering Victorian Tea Party-themed birthday parties from May through October. Parties include a Victorian activity such as fan decoration and language, hat decorating, and Victorian clothing styles. Finger sandwiches, cupcakes, and tea of course. Children may also learn about Victorian manners.

Junior Historians

Register for Junior Historians from 1 - 4pm on Sunday, Sept 12, at the Sheldon Peck Homestead (355 E. Parkside, Lombard).

The Junior History Series is designed for children ages 8 - 12.

Cost: $10 per child per year (for members) or $25 per child per year (non-members).

Programs will take place on the second Friday of each month from 3:30 - 5pm at either the Peck Homestead or the Victorian Cottage. Read the Junior History Series schedule.

Girl Scout Programs

All programs begin at 3:00 p.m. and last approximately 90 minutes. Programs are presented Wednesdays at the Victorian Cottage or Thursdays at the Sheldon Peck Homestead. For more information or to schedule a program please contact us at 630-629-1885.

Junior Docent Program

Open to youths ages 12 - 18.
Get up close and personal with hands-on pioneer skills! Junior docents provide our visitors with a better view of the past. You are costumed volunteers that help with tours and children's programs.
As a docent, you will receive:

  • training in pioneer skills such as spinning, weaving, woodworking, and making candles, soap, and butter
  • volunteer service hours for your community service, college application or graduation
  • knowledge in pioneer living that makes you stand out in a crowd.

Opportunities to docent in period costumes include all of the Junior History programs along with

  • Underground Railroad Tours in February
  • Cemetery Walk - October
  • Candlelight Christmas Tour - December
